MUSIC WAS AND IS GOD’S IDEA!

Have you heard these sayings about today’s secular music? “I’m really not listening to the words because the beat is off the hook!” “This artist is a believer because when they got their award they thanked God and anyway didn’t you hear #8 on the CD, they were talking about God!” “If you think about it, there is no good Christian music out there; I mean it all sounds the same!”

The truth of the matter is that music was and is God’s idea.

“You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.”

Revelation 4:11 NKJV

We can clearly see that God created everything. Notice that everything has a purpose and that is so God will get the glory from the things He created.  He created us and therefore our lives should bring honor to God.  Music is no different.  Its original purpose is to bring glory to God. 

But what happened!

Why does some music honor, exalt and talk about God while others promote having sex, talk about violence, disrespect and degrade women and use foul language.

In order to understand why this happened, we have to see God’s perspective. 

‘My people are destroyed because of a lack of knowledge.” 

Hosea 4:6 KJV

It didn’t say we are destroyed because of a lack of dancing, singing, or being fired up for God.  We are blind because we lack the truth of the Word of God.  Many times we cause destruction in our lives because of what we don’t know.  It is Satan’s job to deceive and it is our job to receive what God has to say. 

Has Satan deceived you in the area of music?

Or do you know God’s perspective?

The beginning…

 “You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: the sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold.  The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.”

Ezekiel 28:13-14

This is the story of Lucifer or his fallen name Satan. He was created by God and notice that he was in God’s presence. Notice, that Lucifer was not only beautiful, but he also wore the best and most expensive jewelry.  He wore diamonds and gold. 

Talk about bling bling! 

In fact, he was the workmanship for God.  This means that Lucifer was the praise and worship leader in the garden of Eden. His responsibility was to use music to worship and to glorify God. 

There were instruments that were played in heaven, but they were part of his body.  Drums, pianos, flutes, and keyboards lived inside of him. 

Let’s be real, you know the music sounded good!  Something happened.  Lucifer got caught up in himself and forgot the reason why he was created.  He forgot why he was created and the gifts that were given to him were now being used for selfish reasons.  

Therefore, he was kicked out of heaven to the earth.  Realize he never lost his ability to produce music.  When he was in heaven, the music was drawing people closer to God because it promoted and talked about God.  This music was anointed. 

When he was cast down to the earth, he still has the ability to produce music.  This music is anointed, but it is anti-anointed.   Instead of it drawing people closer to God, it draws you closer to self (fleshly nature) or to Satan.  God created us to worship Him and Satan’s desire is for us to worship him.  As you can see there is a battle going on. 

We were created to worship and honor God.  Since Satan is a copy cat, he has a desire for people to worship and honor him too. 

So believe it or not, when we listen to music we are honoring, singing, and praising someone.  

The next time you get ready to purchase or even listen to a CD that you may have at home, ask yourself these questions:  What am I meditating on when I listen to these songs?  What am I confessing over my life?  Who am I singing about?

Finally, is what I’m listening to honoring God, my flesh or Satan?
